چکیده
Class I: Prospective randomized controlled trial. Class II: Prospective clinical study or retrospective analysis of reliable data. Includes observational, cohort, prevalence, or case control studies. Class III: Retrospective study. Includes database or registry reviews, large series of case reports, expert opinion. Technology assessment: A technology study which does not lend itself to classification in the above-mentioned format. Devices are evaluated in terms of their accuracy, reliability, therapeutic potential, or cost effectiveness.

Limitations of Rib Fixation for Chest Wall Reconstruction
Surgical rib fixation in the setting of flail chest has proven benefits, while surgical fixation of non-flail fractures is controversial. Chest wall reconstruction with rib fixation techniques can improve pain, preserve breathing mechanics and prevent complications from lung herniation. However, there are limitations to this technique. With this case report, we describe plate fracture and screw...
متن کاملRib Fracture Fixation Restores Inspiratory Volume and Peak Flow in a Full Thorax Human Cadaveric Breathing Model
BACKGROUND Multiple rib fractures cause significant pain and potential for chest wall instability. Despite an emerging trend of surgical management of flail chest injuries, there are no studies examining the effect of rib fracture fixation on respiratory function. OBJECTIVES Using a novel full thorax human cadaveric breathing model, we sought to explore the effect of flail chest injury and su...
متن کاملClinical Results of Percutaneous Fixation of Pelvic and Acetabular Fractures: A Minimally Invasive Internal Fixation Technique
Background: The pelvic ring fractures (PRF) and acetabular fractures (AF) are among the major orthopedic injuriesassociated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Open surgical stabilization is the standard treatment for themajority of these complications. Percutaneous minimally invasive surgical stabilization of the fractures has become anaccepted treatment method for th...
متن کاملThe Decrease of the Duration of Stay in the ICU with Rib Fixation in a Case of Multiple Rib Fracture.
Severe breathing problems arise in multiple rib fractures. As a result, many advantages of the surgical stabilization of the chest wall have been reported. Especially, shortening mechanical ventilation, along with a decrease in the duration of intensive care unit stay, is important for the prevention of possible infection complications. In this study, the dramatic improvement of the breathing p...
متن کاملRib Fractures: To Fix or Not to Fix? An Evidence-Based Algorithm
Rib fractures are a common injury resulting from blunt chest trauma. The most important complications associated with rib fractures include death, pneumonia, and the need for mechanical ventilation. The development of new osteosynthesis materials has stimulated increased interest in the surgical treatment of rib fractures. Surgical stabilisation, however, is not needed for every patient with ri...
متن کاملAn assessment of outcomes with intramedullary fixation of fractured ribs
BACKGROUND Surgical management of fractured ribs with internal fixation is an increasingly accepted therapy. Concurrently, specific rib fixation prostheses are being developed which should improve results and minimise hardware and rib/splint construct failures. The Synthes titanium intramedullary splint lends itself to difficult to access areas such as posterior rib fractures and fractures unde...
